Example flow
- Shopify · Read orders
orders.listDone - DHL Shipment Tracking · Create DHL Express shipment
express_shipments.createMaker-checker - Nexra · Record the decision and result in the evidence chainProven
Example workflow. Routine runs go through on their own. Only a change your rules flag, such as one over a limit you set, waits for the right person, who sees the exact change and the rule before it reaches DHL Shipment Tracking.
What gets logged
- Whether it ran on its own or who approved it, and under which rule
- A fingerprint of the exact request sent to DHL Shipment Tracking
- DHL Shipment Tracking's reply: what it created or changed
- One entry in the evidence chain, linked to the one before

Access and limits
- Authentication
- DHL API Developer Portal key, plus optional MyDHL API credentials
- Plans and access
- Free DHL API Developer Portal app subscribed to Shipment Tracking - Unified (and Location Finder - Unified for service points). MyDHL API needs a DHL Express customer account and separate MyDHL API credentials. Tracking defaults to 250 calls per day and one call every 5 seconds. The MyDHL test environment allows 500 calls per day.
- Test environment
- Choosing Sandbox uses api-sandbox.dhl.com (mocked tracking; example number 7777777770) and the MyDHL test environment (/mydhlapi/test). Location Finder has production data only.
- Rate limits
- Tracking: default 250 calls per day and one call every 5 seconds per app; HTTP 429 when exceeded. MyDHL test environment: 500 calls per day. Shipment creation is never automatically retried.
- Pagination
- Tracking uses offset and limit with nextUrl; Nexra follows nextUrl. MyDHL and Location Finder return one page.
- Provider events
- DHL offers push tracking only through separate business-specific products. Flows run on demand, on a schedule, or when a scheduled check finds new or changed records.
Before you build a flow
- Unified tracking queries one tracking number per request; DHL Express shipments can also be listed by waybill numbers or by shipment reference and date range through MyDHL API.
- MyDHL shipment creation never books a courier (pickup.isRequested is always false). Pickup booking (POST /pickups can incur charges), pickup updates and cancellation, shipment piece additions, paperless trade image uploads, commercial invoice data uploads, identifier allocation (GET /identifiers reserves waybill ranges) and early shipment screening are intentionally excluded.
- Proof of delivery and shipment documents (MyDHL proof-of-delivery and get-image) are returned as metadata only: type, format and size. The base64 content is dropped; download documents in MyDHL.
- MyDHL has no read-only pickup availability endpoint; use express_address_validations.list with type pickup and the pickupCutoff from rates.
- The single-piece GET /rates is not added because it puts the ship-from and ship-to address in the query string; express_rates.list sends the same addresses in the request body.
- MyDHL API requires the account number in the query string for products and tracking by account; it is a DHL billing account identifier, not a credential.
- MyDHL service point search is offered by coordinates or service point ID only; its free-text address mode is excluded because it puts the address in the query string. Use Location Finder by postal code for address-area searches.
- Location Finder searches never send a street address: search by country, postal code and city, by coordinates or by location ID.
- Reference data cannot use the 'all' dataset because it can exceed one page of records.
- The health check tracks DHL's documented example number 7777777770. It succeeds on the sandbox; in production DHL may answer 404 for that number, which reports the connection as not found even though the key is valid.
- Detail depends on the DHL business: recipientPostalCode unlocks full data for parcel-de and parcel-nl.
