Dynamics 365 Business Central with Nexra

Connected, approved, proven.

The things teams do most with Dynamics 365 Business Central, an example flow with a person in the loop, and what Nexra keeps as proof.

Top actions

  • Create draft sales credit memocredit_notes.createApproval by rule
  • Create customer payment journal linecustomer_payments.createApproval by rule
  • List G/L accountsaccounts.listRead

Example flow

  1. Magento Open Source · Read inventoryinventory.listDone
  2. Dynamics 365 Business Central · Create purchase orderpurchase_orders.createMaker-checker
  3. Nexra · Record the decision and result in the evidence chainProven

Example workflow. Routine runs go through on their own. Only a change your rules flag, such as one over a limit you set, waits for the right person, who sees the exact change and the rule before it reaches Dynamics 365 Business Central.

What gets logged

  • Whether it ran on its own or who approved it, and under which rule
  • A fingerprint of the exact request sent to Dynamics 365 Business Central
  • Dynamics 365 Business Central's reply: what it created or changed
  • One entry in the evidence chain, linked to the one before

Access and limits

Authentication
Microsoft Entra app credentials with automatic token renewal, or an existing access token
Plans and access
Business Central online Essentials or Premium; APIs are enabled by default online. The Microsoft Entra app or user needs Business Central permission sets covering each table read or written.
Test environment
Sandbox environments use the same API with the sandbox environment name.
Rate limits
Per user: 6,000 OData requests per 5-minute sliding window, 5 concurrent requests and 95 queued; HTTP 429 when exceeded.
Pagination
Server-driven paging with @odata.nextLink; Nexra sets Prefer: odata.maxpagesize (online maximum 20,000).
Provider events
API v2.0 webhook subscriptions for entity create, update and delete notifications. Flows can start the moment something happens: when a sales invoice is created; when a sales invoice is changed; when a sales order is created; when a new customer is added.

Before you build a flow

  • Customer reads only.
  • Updates require the record's current @odata.etag in If-Match, as the API documents; read the record first and pass its etag.
  • Document lines are read per parent document or with the header (Include lines on the list), and created per parent document or with the header in one request (deep insert); line updates and every posting action (post, ship, receive, invoice, send quote, make order or invoice from a quote, post journal) are not exposed.
  • Intentionally excluded: posting, cancelling or deleting any document, journal or line, and payments, refunds and bank transfers.
  • Bank transactions: Business Central API v2.0 has bank accounts but no bank account ledger entry or bank statement endpoint, so bank reconciliation reads are not available. Posted bank movements appear in List G/L entries on the bank's G/L account.
  • Posted sales invoices accept only due date, promised pay date and dispute status changes through the API (Sales Invoice Aggregator in Microsoft's base application), so notes such as a payment account number cannot be written on a posted invoice.
  • Customer and vendor payments are read from payment journals: lines leave the journal when it is posted, so posted payments are read from List G/L entries instead.
  • Document attachments return metadata only; attachment content is not downloaded or uploaded.
  • Creates have no idempotency key; uncertain creates are not repeated automatically.
  • Sales invoices are created as drafts; posting is left to Business Central users.
