Gusto with Nexra

Connected, approved, proven.

The things teams do most with Gusto, an example flow with a person in the loop, and what Nexra keeps as proof.

Example flow

  1. Gusto · List company adminsDone
  2. Gusto · Add people to departmentNeeds approval
  3. Nexra · Record the decision and result in the evidence chainProven

Example workflow. Routine runs go through on their own. Only a change your rules flag, such as one over a limit you set, waits for the right person, who sees the exact change and the rule before it reaches Gusto.

What gets logged

  • Whether it ran on its own or who approved it, and under which rule
  • A fingerprint of the exact request sent to Gusto
  • Gusto's reply: what it created or changed
  • One entry in the evidence chain, linked to the one before

Try this in the sandbox

Run the whole flow with test data in your sandbox, then connect a Gusto, Inc. test account before you go live.

Access and limits

Authentication
Gusto OAuth application with a refresh token (rotated on every refresh)
Plans and access
Gusto companies that authorise a Gusto developer application. Requires an OAuth application from the Gusto Developer Portal; each token is bound to one company. Scopes: companies:read, companies:write, company_admin:read, employees:read, employees:write, employees:manage, employments:read, jobs:read, compensations:read, departments:read, departments:write, contractors:read, contractors:write, time_off_policies:read, time_off_requests:read, employee_time_off_activities:read, payrolls:read, payrolls:write (earning types only), pay_schedules:read, benefits:read, company_benefits:read, time_sheet:read and time_sheet:write.
Test environment
Developer accounts include demo companies on api.gusto-demo.com.
Rate limits
200 requests per rolling 60 seconds per application and user; HTTP 429 with Retry-After.
Pagination
page and per (max 100) with X-Total-Pages response headers.
Provider events
Gusto webhooks for employee, payroll, company and contractor events. Flows run on demand, on a schedule, or when a scheduled check finds new or changed records.

Before you build a flow

  • Gusto has no updated-since filter for employees; flows read the full list.
  • Payrolls, compensations, time off, pay schedules, pay periods and benefits are read only. Nexra never creates, prepares, calculates or submits payroll, runs payroll syncs, or writes compensation. The payroll writes scope is used only for earning types.
  • Compensation rates and payroll totals are returned as before (read-only finance reporting).
  • Excluded by policy: employee and contractor creation (onboarding and portal invitations), terminations, rehires, offboarding, contractor payments, payroll and payroll-sync runs, compensation and benefit enrolment writes, garnishments, home addresses, tax and bank data, forms and documents, and every delete.
  • Contractor updates send only names, business name and work email; personal email is not updated because it is the address Gusto uses for onboarding invitations.
  • Department membership can be added; removal is not automated.
  • Employee updates cover name, email, work email and phone; SSN and date of birth are never sent or mapped.
  • Time-off activities support only the vacation and sick types, as documented.
  • Deletes are not implemented. Department, location, work-address and time-sheet creation have no idempotency key, so uncertain creates are not repeated; Gusto rejects duplicate department names.
