Segment

Analytics, databases & data platforms

Bring your business data together in Segment, and act on it in the apps your team already uses.

52 ways to read, 8 ways to write, each write switched on by you.

Segment with Nexra

Connected, approved, proven.

The things teams do most with Segment, an example flow with a person in the loop, and what Nexra keeps as proof.

Top actions

  • Create labelApproval by rule
  • Add labels to sourceApproval by rule
  • Get daily API call usageRead

Example flow

  1. Segment · Get daily API call usageDone
  2. Segment · Create labelNeeds approval
  3. Nexra · Record the decision and result in the evidence chainProven

Example workflow. Routine runs go through on their own. Only a change your rules flag, such as one over a limit you set, waits for the right person, who sees the exact change and the rule before it reaches Segment.

What gets logged

  • Whether it ran on its own or who approved it, and under which rule
  • A fingerprint of the exact request sent to Segment
  • Segment's reply: what it created or changed
  • One entry in the evidence chain, linked to the one before

Try this in the sandbox

Run the whole flow with test data in your sandbox, then connect your own account when you are ready to go live.

Access and limits

Authentication
Public API token (bearer)
Plans and access
Public API access is available to Team and Business workspaces; Protocols (tracking plans) and the audit trail need Business tier. Public API tokens are created by workspace owners and carry the token's role permissions.
Test environment
A free or trial workspace can be used for read testing.
Rate limits
Per-token, per-endpoint limits (for example 200 requests per minute for tracking plan rules); HTTP 429 with rate limit headers.
Pagination
pagination.count and pagination.cursor; data.pagination.next gives the next cursor.
Provider events
Segment audit trail forwarding and destinations, not configured through this API. Flows run on demand, on a schedule, or when a scheduled check finds new or changed records.

Before you build a flow

  • Tracking calls (identify, track, page, screen, group, alias, batch) and Unify profile reads use different hosts and credentials (source write key, Profile API access token); they are available through the separate Segment (Tracking & Profiles) connector (segment-tracking), not on this connection.
  • The Profiles API (profiles.segment.com, a separate Space access token) is not used, so user profile traits, events and identities cannot be read here.
  • Write keys, destination, subscription, function and insert function setting values, and function source code are never returned, because they can contain secrets; only their names or counts are mapped.
  • Creating, deleting or reconfiguring sources, destinations, warehouses, functions, transformations and destination filters (which can drop or alter live event data) is not implemented. Write keys are never created or removed.
  • Audience, computed trait and Reverse ETL writes are not implemented: they activate syncs to downstream tools. Manual Reverse ETL syncs, audience runs and previews are never triggered.
  • Deletion and suppression regulations, IAM users, groups and roles, and Delivery Overview (beta) metrics are out of scope.
  • Tracking plan rules can be added or updated but not replaced wholesale or deleted.
  • Spaces, computed traits, Reverse ETL, destination subscriptions and function versions are alpha endpoints and delivery metrics is a beta endpoint in Segment's API; Nexra sends the matching versioned Accept header.
  • Event volume accepts one group-by dimension and one value per filter, because Nexra does not send repeated query parameters.
  • Label creation has no idempotency key; uncertain writes are not repeated automatically.

Developer reference

  1. Create the Twilio credentials described above with the narrowest permissions your flows need.
  2. In Nexra, open Connect, then Connections, then New connection, choose Segment, enter its settings and credentials, and tick only the write actions you need. Connection guide
  3. Test the connection, then use its actions as flow sources and destinations. Flow guide
