Example workflow. Routine runs go through on their own. Only a change your rules flag, such as one over a limit you set, waits for the right person, who sees the exact change and the rule before it reaches TaxJar.
What gets logged
- Whether it ran on its own or who approved it, and under which rule
- A fingerprint of the exact request sent to TaxJar
- TaxJar's reply: what it created or changed
- One entry in the evidence chain, linked to the one before
Try this in the sandbox
Run the whole flow with test data in your sandbox, then connect a TaxJar / Stripe test account before you go live.
For developers

Access and limits
- Authentication
- TaxJar API token
- Plans and access
- TaxJar account with API access. Address validation requires TaxJar Plus; transactions count toward your plan's order volume. Token and subscription must permit API access. Rates and calculations outside the US depend on TaxJar's international support.
- Test environment
- Use the sandbox token and sandbox origin; never reuse a live token for a test. The sandbox does not support every endpoint (for example address validation).
- Rate limits
- Respect TaxJar 429 responses and plan usage limits. Tax calculations are metered API usage and are never automatically retried.
- Pagination
- TaxJar returns complete lists in one response: order and refund lists return IDs for a date range, and customer lists return all customer IDs.
- Provider events
- Not used by these operations. Flows run on demand, on a schedule, or when a scheduled check finds new or changed records.
Before you build a flow
- Calculations require correct addresses, nexus, product tax codes and amounts; Nexra does not determine tax liability.
- Order and refund lists return transaction IDs only; read each one with the get operation for amounts and lines.
- Order, refund and customer deletes are intentionally excluded. Nothing here files, remits or refunds money; refund transactions only record a completed refund for reporting.
- VAT number validation is excluded because TaxJar only accepts the VAT number in the query string.
- Street addresses are not sent to the rates endpoint because TaxJar accepts them only in the query string; rates use ZIP, city, state and country.
- Order and refund create and update are reporting records, not money movement, but they affect filed reports: TaxJar uses them for sales tax reports and AutoFile returns. Updates after a period is filed can change amended filings.
Developer reference
- Create the TaxJar / Stripe credentials described above with the narrowest permissions your flows need.
- In Nexra, open Connect, then Connections, then New connection, choose TaxJar, enter its settings and credentials, and tick only the write actions you need. Connection guide
- Test the connection, then use its actions as flow sources and destinations. Flow guide
